Its main components include [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/28750557\">R<\/a>]:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alkaloids: menisperine, magnoflorine, moschamine<\/li>\n<li>Flavonoids: luteolin and derivatives<\/li>\n<li>Phenolic acids: caffeic, ferulic, vanillic, syringic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Eight diterpenoids in muira puama\u2019s bark have been described [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/21485268\">R<\/a>]:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>7-oxo-kolavelool<\/li>\n<li>7alpha-hydroxykolavelool<\/li>\n<li>6alpha,7alpha-dihydroxykolavenol<\/li>\n<li>12-oxo-hardwickiic acid<\/li>\n<li>ptycholide I<\/li>\n<li>ptycholide II<\/li>\n<li>ptycholide III<\/li>\n<li>ptycholide IV<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Diterpenoids are natural compounds with potential antibacterial, anticancer and anti-inflammatory properties [<a href=\"https:\/\/www-ncbi-nlm-nih-gov.gate.lib.buffalo.edu\/pubmed\/28629133\">R<\/a>].<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Health_Benefits\"><b>Health Benefits<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Muira puama is commercialized in supplements for sex drive and several other uses, many of which remain unproven. Muira puama also <b>improved sexual desire<\/b>,<b> sexual fantasies<\/b>,<b> and the ability to reach orgasm<\/b> in 65% of women with sexual dysfunctions [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/19796015\">R<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>In another study, muira puama combined with <a href=\"https:\/\/selfhacked.com\/blog\/ginkgo-biloba\/\">ginkgo biloba<\/a> (Herbal vX, 175 mg muira puama and 16 mg of gingko) <b>increased libido in 65% of 202 women who reported low sex drive <\/b>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/11186145\">R<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>Muira puama supplements of (1,000 &#8211; 1,500 mg daily) for 2 weeks <b>increased libido in 60% of 262 men with low libido<\/b> [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/25032254\">R<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>Although limited, the evidence suggests that muira puama may work as an aphrodisiac.
