Regulations set manufacturing standards for them but don&#8217;t guarantee that they&#8217;re safe or effective. Speak with your doctor before supplementing.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Possibly_Effective_For\">Possibly Effective For<\/span><\/h3>\n<h4>1) <em>H. pylori<\/em><\/h4>\n<p><em>L. johnsonii<\/em><strong> was inversely associated with <em>H. pylori<\/em> colonization in 621 children<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/12921879\">R<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/18343637\">R<\/a>) and in 12 asymptomatic volunteers (<a href=\"http:\/\/jac.oxfordjournals.org\/content\/51\/5\/1317.long\">R<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Fermented milk containing <em>L. johnsonii <\/em>co-administered with antibiotics was shown to have a favorable effect on <em>H. pylori<\/em> gastritis in 50 volunteers (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/14535874\">R<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>During the early infection stages, administration of <em>L. johnsonii<\/em> attenuated <em>H. pylori<\/em>-induced gastritis in mice (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC1317072\/\">R<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Both live and heat-killed <em>L. johnsonii<\/em> inhibited the growth of <em>H. pylori<\/em> in mice, where they also suppress gastric acid secretion (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4475388\/\">R<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Insufficient_Evidence_For\">Insufficient Evidence For<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The following purported benefits are only supported by limited, low-quality clinical studies. There is insufficient evidence to support the use of <em>L. johnsonii<\/em> probiotics for any of the below-listed uses.
