Do you know if taking carnosine would have the same effect as carnitine on TMAO levels?

Wish you had gone farther. TMAO is implicated pretty conclusively in CKD and CVD, which are two of the most destructive diseases afflicting humankind. Recently Taurisolo, a grape pomace extract, was shown to dramatically reduce TMAO levels in all test subjects. When pectin was added, that had no increased effect. Taurisolo may have worked better than other grape seed products because of the way it is made — specifically to bypass the stomach acids and is thus much more bioavailable. I don’t find many, if any, similarly well thought through products available in America and Taurisolo is not available here as far as I can see, so if you know where it can be purchased by Americans, please let the readers (and me) know asap.
Many thanks.

I have been reading a lot around Phosphatidylcholine and the productions of TMAO in PubMed and other medical trials. I am wondering if you could answer a question on this subject.
Most of the trials were tracked by men and women eating high PhosCholin diets of Red meat.
My question concerns those that do not eat red meat or drink alcohol and eat mostly a fish/vegetarian diet but often take PhosCholin supplementation, as it’s a major part of what our cells are made up off. My question is: Have any tests been completed with people who do not eat red meat, TMAO inducing food but instead who take Phosphatidylcholine as a supplement? I would be interested to know what results are found when PhosCholine is taken in people as a supplement, who do not consume red meat?
Red meat is a whole food containing both the Phosphatidylcholine and saturated fats plus others. These interactions of chemicals within the red meat may also have an interaction alongside the Phosphatidylcholine that precipitates its action and results into TMAO. It would be interesting to know what happens to those who take just the PhosCholine without consuming red meat. I hope this is a reasonable question to ask? Many thanks, Suzi

I have 5 stents because of plaque in arteries. My functional medicine doc prescribed phosphotidycholine (sp?) as part of my supplement protocol because i have the apoe4/4 gene which is a risk for cardiovascular issues and Alzheimer’s. Am I reading this article correctly that I should NOT be taking added choline? Thanks!

One case is to grow your own:”To minimize cost, while achieving adequate breast meat n-3 enrichment, carcass weight, and meat yield, feeding 10% flaxseed for 24.1 d before processing is recommended as an optimal breast meat n-3 enrichment strategy. The optimal thigh meat n-3 enrichment strategy was to feed 10% flaxseed for 4.54 d before processing.”

Exactly, this is a review of what we know at this point about TMAO (through scientific research). But there is a lot of ground left to cover here. There are those who stress the importance of TMAO as THE answer to why we have heart disease, and those who say this is all rubbish. The truth is most likely somewhere in-between. Hopefully, more meaningful studies will soon follow.

In my personal opinion, this is another piece of the puzzle, but we need the whole picture!

One way to get the benefits of DHA /EPA without consuming fish could be to replace it with high omega 3 poultry that is now available in many supermarkets.
