Today I bought a purple sweet potato, it looked like the one in the photo in your article but the only purple part was the skin, when I removed the skin it the flesh was white. What did I buy? The purple yam looks much better.

I am new to all this and can’t say I have ever seen a purple sweet potato. Are they available at regular grocery stores like Jewel or should I buy them at the health food store? Do they taste any different than regular sweet potatoes and what is the best way to cook them for the most flavor? Thank you!

Let’s hope it is blueberries. In Oz I have never seen blue corn and we obviously get seconds when it comes to purple sweet potato atleast in my area even though I am much closer to much of Polynesia. We have a great range of Asian vegetables but I guess that’s relative to our comparatively small population too.. Time for offirmative action. I’ll grow my own. It may take 5 to 10 years to grow a quality product but hey I may need a garden space as well. Not all solutions for all people.

I tried purple sweet potato once. Like all fresh food it is handy to be able to recognise freshest and best quality. With most fresh food I am fairly competent at picking quality but because there are no farmers markets near me that sell it I purchased some from my local supermarket and it put me off eating anything for a few days. As you can tell I likes me food. My sample tasted like eating cardboard. I hope everyone elses tastes better than my experience
