The claim that melatonin decreases prolactin is based on a study in rats. In humans, melatonin has been shown to increase prolactin release. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2352119

I have psoriatic arthritis and my psoriasis cleared during both pregnancies 10 years apart. Second pregnancy I breastfeed and when I weaned I had a brief psychotic break with anxiety and depression. I know that all of this is connected and I think it is prolactin related.

I had trauma to my ribs and had a rash (shingles) on my back for over a year, which I ignored. Only when my spine fractured in Jan 2018 did I start looking for the root cause of osteoporosis did I discover high prolactin.

My less than interested endocrinologist commented on this last night and gave me a great clue.

This article has been fantastic for my research as has selfdecode.com.

Both sites are brilliant. Thanks

I kept going to the doctor and they always said it was anxiety or stress but I knew something was going on. I used to have sex 5 times a week now once seems enough and only if i am able to get an erection.
Well finally i got a pass to the urologist and he did testosterone and prolactin blood test. Testosterone came to 450 and prolactin to 19.8
I had head aches for years almost daily and now I know the relation between prolactin and what is going on with me. I have an appointment this week to show the Urologist the results, I just hope he doesn’t says that my lvls are not too high.
I am 31 athletic body with a 18 BMI and eat well and have a lifestyle of no stress at all. I really really hope prolactin is causing this problems.

Love this write up on it btw. Only thing I’m not sure about is under your “technical” heading. “Big” and “Big big” PRL are typically used to refer to specific forms of PRL who’s molecular weight are above 23kDa because they are in complex with other PRL proteins or other proteins in general. The 14-18kDa fragments that have been described are typically just referred to as PRL fragments, vasohibins, or vasoinhibins.

I was diagnosed with a testosterone of 534, and elevated prolactin (19), which isn’t very high, but i noticed a drop in my libido, so my Dr. recommended that i do a sex hormone work up. I’ve read several articles on lowering prolactin by stacking B-6, vit. E, Zinc, as the primary supplements, as secondary take one of the following, or a combination of Ashwagandah, Mucuna Pruiens, or SamE. After 3 months i went down to 15, and my T went to 836. then after six months i’m now a 9.5, and my T is 906.

I am 67yro male and have lead a physical life being reasonable fit for age.
I have noticed a marked deterioration in my performance over the last 10yrs.
Incremental so not so noticeable.
My prolactin is 67ng/ml, and my endo is yet to prescribe me anything so I am trialing Mucuna puriens to see if I feel a bit better, lower PL, and stop the de-densification of my bones.
I wake up feeling like crap. Takes me 2hrs + espresso to face the world.
This ” negative f/back loop” re prolactin/dopamine has me confused.
All the best.
