Pummelling Brussel sprouts as done in producing cabbage sauerkraut increases the sulfuraphane by 300%.
If you make Brussel sprout sauerkraut and allow it to completely ferment( 3 weeks to cycle through the three bacterial stages) then you will get a food with 1000% more vit C and 300% more sulfuraphane!
I just called the grocer to price out the sprouts.

I would like to hear from people what has sulforaphane helped them or someone else. For myself, after 1 month of daily intake of 20-40mg of sulforaphane eating broccoli sprouts and broccoli microgreens, the inflammation from arthritis that I had in both wrista, virtually disappeared. I also noticed if I slacked off my usual intake, the pain and inflammation came back a little, so I make sure to keep dosing.

Does cooking spoil the SFN in Brussels sprouts?

I was wondering if you have any information on how to achieve the most bioavailability of sulphoraphane. I have been growing broccoli sprouts and adding 1 cup of sprouts (fresh or frozen) to a blended smoothie with kale, apple, blueberries, carrot and celery. Does combining the sprouts with other fruits/vegetables affect the sulphoraphane output? Should they been eating alone? Does freezing sprouts affect sulphoraphane?

As far as I can tell, there are only 3 that “might” deliver enough sulforaphane to have the beneficial effects. It’s not really possible to eat enough fresh sprouts, let alone broccoli to get the study results. I would like your opinion on the only 3 I have found:
1. LifeExtension optimized broccoli extract ( separates the two precursers – enzymes myrosinase alongside its glucoraphanin so that they might actually work to make sulforaphane in the gut -other companies don’t separate them.)
2. Prostaphane – active stabilized sulforaphane – the only real source of sulforaphane for a while now – but must be ordered From France.
2. Fairly new – Brocelite – claims to be a stablized sulforaphane – requires refrigeration just like Prostaphane, possible contains a larger dose of actual sulforaphane. Is it too good to be true?

Can any of the above give us the actual extremely positive study results of sulforaphane? Until theses cam about it has not really been possible….

They had to take it a couple times to be sure it was correct!

Broccoli sprouts are extremely important and contain even more nutrients and cancer/heart disease-fighting compounds than mature broccoli. I have personally experienced after taking the Kiwi Superfoods Broccoli Sprout Powder it helps to reverse some of these damage heart health, especially for diabetics, Blood pressure and kidney health.

He deals with a lot of anxiety, so much so that he doesn’t want to go out, doesn’t want to be with people. My brother has to beg him to be with family. I feel that natural supplements are so important, but he depends only on the drug levodopa, his meds for the a-fib, and anti depression medicine. Last three months my brother working in India purchased PD herbal remedy from Best Health Herbal Centre. My father only used the PD herbal remedy for 6 weeks without levodopa and all his symptoms was completely reversed. My father is now happily living Parkinson’s diseases free now ….I recommend this Parkinson’s herbal remedy for all Parkinson’s Patients.

It was about growths. My experience however was far better with lactoferrin, carnosine, oleuropein from olive leaf, selenium, apple peel powder and spirulina. While on spirulina she scored 100% perfect on a blood test analysis.

I use a single auger masticating juicer which extracts all the juice. I then leave it for a few minutes to allow the glucoraphin and myrosinase to mix to produce SFN, then gulp it down. It’d be a real drag to have to sit there and eat all those sprouts. Freezing it also increases the amount of SFN so I freeze it into cubes.

I found one reference that said 250mg of SFN per 100g of sprouts. Based on the dry weight of sprouts, that would be saying 79% of sprouts are water weight, which seems reasonable.

Sample scenario:
* 100g package of sprouts eaten over 2 days, 125mg of SFN a day.
* If I weight 80kg, that’s 1.5mg/kg.
* They only gave 10mg/kg to the mice every other day, so I need to reduce 1.5mg/kg to 0.75mg/kg.
* 0.75mg/kg is 7.5% of the dosage given to the mice in the study
* So, since in the study T levels were reduced 75%, we might expect levels in humans to go down about 5%.

And that’s a lot of sprouts to be eating every day, most people probably wouldn’t consume that many, but some people do.

Some studies in humans have shown no change in T when other levels of SFN are administered.

It would be great to see some studies in humans concerning the effect of broccoli sprout consumption on testosterone to prove this out.

The mice lost around 75% of their testosterone while eating the sprouts. That’s something to consider. Low T can cause other health issues.

I agree, everything in balance – but what’s the balance?

I’d like to know what a reasonable amount of sprouts is for a male to eat.

There is 1153mg of SFN per 100g of dry sprouts. 100g is an entire package that you get at the store.

So my rough math is if I weigh 80kg, I’d have to take in about 70g (dry weight) of Sprouts a day to get 800mg of SFN. That’s quite a bit of sprouts, but nothing too crazy.

It would be good to see more study on this in humans. “A phase II study of sulforaphane-rich broccoli sprout extracts in men with recurrent prostate cancer” gave SFN extracts with no impact on testosterone, but it’s not clear to me how much they took and how active the SFN was after it was extracted from the source.

For example, polyunsaturated fats lower testosterone, but that isn’t a reason to avoid them, for they are incredibly healthy for heart/brain health, and they are used to make the cell membranes in all of our cells. Flaxseed also lowers T, but flaxseed is also incredibly healthy for a number of reasons.

Don’t let one hormone dictate your entire life. If you want to raise T without avoiding healthy foods, lift heavy weights 3-5 times a week, get body fat % down to 8-12%, eat more than you burn, sleep, wear loose boxers, avoid plastics and chemicals, reduce stress via meditation, have sex, and practice good posture.

You can grow broccoli sprouts in hydroponic media (water!) which is what we at Vegus Juices do. We take young broccoli shoots and juice the whole thing – there is no dirt because we don’t grow oil soil, but we add naturally sourced minerals to ensure the sprouts grow with the highest nutrient content possible. You need to eat around 1.3kg (2 1/2 lbs) broccoli sprouts per day to get 30ml broccoli sprout juice / 76 micro moles sulforaphane (this recommended daily dose was determined by the John Hopkins institute to be the amount needed to reduce existing tumours and to stop new ones from forming). This is an excellent article and I hope my comment helps.

Watch Dr Rhonda Patrick interview Dr Jed Fahey on her YouTube channel Foundmyfitness.
It goes into all the geeky science stuff really well and will probably answer any questions you have.
It’s 2 hours long if I remember correctly and there is another video she has done on the subject that is 45 mins long, maybe.
Hope this helps
