I am 62 years old with calcium of 10.5 and PTH of 82 – Vitamin D was 19 up to 38 with just oral supplements – all readings stayed the same w/increased Vit. D. I had the 24 hr urine test and was around 450. No kidney stones, heart checkup shows no concerns, I do have osteopenia (but so do my friends of my age). Most literature says over 50 years old to monitor… what have you seen in your office?

HOWEVER, this can be dangerous… if your calcium is above 11.5, the additional Vitamin D can make your calcium go above 12 and we have even seen 4 patients have a stroke because of this, and another 39 patients need to be admitted to the hospital because their calcium was so high

The job of PTH is to increase calcium in the blood: https://selfhacked.com/blog/parathyroid-hormone-pth/#Parathyroid_Hormone_Increases_Blood_Calcium

Studies show that vitamin D supplementation helps lower PTH. If there are studies showing otherwise, please provide the links and we will include them in the post.

The body is wise and it seems it can lower the Vitamin D level in your body to protect you in general. Taking vitamin D supplements could raise your calcium levels to dangerous levels causing all the serious side effects of hyperparathyroidism. Strokes have been caused by people taking Vit D with high pth levels. Pth is supposed to lower calcium- when it doesn’t the body uses other means to lower dangerously high levels of calcium.
When enlarged parathyroid glands are taken out, the vitamin D levels will raise to normal levels on its own! The body is so wise.
