Not a fan of the drugs.

My mother has benefited significantly w Alz symptoms by taking melatonin, with far less “sundowning” (late-day confusion), and no more phone calls in the middle of the night or sleepless nights for her (or me). Started w 3 mg & after a few years, we increased to 4 mg nightly. It acts as an antioxidant in the brain, so benefits go beyond improving sleep. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27500468
Please consider including the prescription drug Mirtazipine in your article. This drug has allowed my mom to stay independent for the last few years, & I hear it is being used quite frequently & effectively off-label for Alzheimer’s/dementia. My mother has very high anxiety, restlessness, and depression without it. It does cause weight gain, but she was so anxious without it that she was losing weight from not eating enough. We started with a low dose & increase it in small increments about every 6-9 months to keep her functioning as well as possible.

All of these effects are helpful for the brain, and many other effects are helpful or women in other ways. For safety, should be applied transdermally and paired with progesterone: with or without a uterus, progesterone itself offers more cognitive benefit. Dr. Bredesen and others have incorporated bioidentical HRT into women’s cognitive treatment programs.

They analyzed how often the men had symptoms of hallucinations, delusions, excessive movements, and agitation and irritability. Then they checked their testosterone levels and divided the group up into those whose testosterone levels were below normal (less than 250 ng/dL) and borderline/normal levels (greater than 260 ng/dL). The results are staggering.

The borderline/normal group was more than five times more likely to have hallucinations, 3.87 times more likely to have delusions, 3.13 times more likely to have excessive movements, and 2.77 times more likely to be irritable and agitated than the low-testosterone participants.

So it looks like it would be a really bad idea to give testosterone therapy to men with Alzheimer’s.

The antidote is as simple as chelating with a liter of high-silicate mineral water each day. Fiji and Volvic are two readily available brands with sufficient silicate, which are available at Walmart.

Therefore, I propose that a diet rich in polyphenols and other foods that stimulate sirtuins and supplements to inhibit NF-kB may be of use in preventing Alzheimer’s. Thank you for your comment, Dawn. We added the research of Dr. Macdonald to the post, along with other evidence of chronic infections that might cause Alzheimer’s.

Please include the research of Dr Alan Macdonald and his research between the link of Lyme disease and other chronic infections of the brain and the amyloid plaques of Alzheimer’s. He studied many Alzheimer’s brains and discovered that the amyloid plaques are indeed made up of bacterial biofilms. That’s huge and no one is reporting on this. Break down the biofilms and treat the Chronic infections and we just may have a cure for Alzheimer’s. Of course much of this is dependent on spreading this information and getting proper treatment before the severe and irreversible brain damage is done!
