Very valuable article on the subject.
It is little than a month, I started to take cold showers and I really love to do. It is little tough at the beginning and I start with warm water and then turn my tap to 100% cold water and taking these cold showers, which I started as a 30 days challenge and I wrote an article in my website and wrote my experiences.

I feel more active and feel less pains in my legs, which is the cause, I started cold showers. I am having legs pains for last 14 years, despite of eating healthy diet, Vipassana meditation twice a day, yoga in the morning for 30-40 minutes, still my legs were same.

Yes, I don’t take any medicine. Now here in Canada it is very cold, and I planned to go for walk in winter as well this year, so I can get more benefits.

I feel very little difference in my legs pains and burning. Second I feel more active than before.

Thanks for writing and sharing this article with all scientific examples.

So, is there a connection between BDNF and insomnia?
How does one know if he or she has low BDNF?
Does low BDNF cause inflammation?
Can cold showers help insomnia?
Can cold therapy increase BDNF?

Hmmmm……too many questions I guess …..

Anxiously waiting for your reply.

Thank you,

Himani N

I get confused as I hear taking a hot bath is good for sleep as the core temperature will raise and then the body cools down. I am thinking if I take a light cold swim that might keep me trying to maintain body heat?
Would appreciate extra guidance as a cold swim is definitely only enjoyable after the fact to me! Want to time my swim for maximum benefit and minimum pain.

I am glad that I have my hotchiller that gives me stable water temperature in the morning.

I did a 3 week cold shower test (showered twice a day) and did not get psoriasis breakouts when I ate food that contain wheat.

Please advise.

“Hydrogen sulphide and mild hypothermia activate the CREB signaling pathway and prevent ischemia-reperfusion injury.”
PMID: 26283659

Most interesting bit is the following which could explain the mild antidepressant and activating effect that I get from cold exposure, antiinflammatory effect notwithstanding:

“Moreover, administration of both NaHS and mild hypothermia resulted in up-regulation of NR2A and NR2B protein expressions, as well as p-CREB protein and BDNF mRNA levels.”

Not necessarily Th2, more like cold reduces inflammation in general.

Probably due to a inmune dissease, without inflamation, only crunch and pain (no osteoartrithis). However, the cold showers improve this symptoms. Could be a th2 inmune system increased? thanks!
